The insulating glass industry is developing rapidly, but because the basic theory of insulating glass in China is not perfect, and some material manufacturers exaggerate the propaganda at will out of interest, the actual service life of many insulating glass simply cannot reach the time limit mentioned in the propaganda, which has become invalid. Some curtain walls fail after only 10 years of construction, resulting in safety accidents of hidden frame curtain walls. This not only fails to achieve the purpose of energy saving, and the experimental performance meets the different requirements of different levels, but also increases the social cost. This paper introduces several simple methods to distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of insulating glass for reference

take any piece of insulating glass from the finished product, and if any of the following phenomena are found, the consumer can judge it as a non-conforming product and ask for return

1。 Cut the two seals into a section with a knife. If there are many small pores (small honeycombs) on the section, it shows two possibilities: one is to manually glue, which will wrap in air and produce bubbles; Another possibility is that the two-layer sealant produced by low-level technology will also have pores even if it is applied by machine. As long as there are pores in the cross section, its life outside the Chinese competition held in Ulaanbaatar and the annual exchange visits of literary and art groups and sports delegations must be very short

2。 Use a knife to cut at any connecting corner of the insulating glass to see if the connecting corner is effectively wrapped with butyl rubber. The actual theory shows that. For the double channel sealed insulating glass made by connecting angle, the pervious path is mainly at four corners, and its pervious rate is 70%, while the pervious rate at the edges accounts for 30%. Therefore, the service life of insulating glass can be greatly extended by using continuous elbow aluminum strip or butyl rubber to effectively wrap the four connecting corners. If butyl rubber is not used to effectively wrap the four corners, the practical significance of double sealing is not great

3。 Use a knife to cut the two sections of the second seal bonded to the glass for a few centimeters, and then tear the sealant outward by hand. If the glass surface is relatively smooth after tearing, and there is no residual glue, it means that there is no adhesive force between the sealant and the glass surface, then the sealing effect can be imagined

4。 To supplement the above methods, check whether the standard molecular sieve is used, whether the butyl rubber is continuous (without disconnection), and if it is not polysulfide rubber, whether the other two sealants have been tested for compatibility (we must do the compatibility test, otherwise there may be endless trouble). If the window frame is sealed with ordinary silicone adhesive instead of standard adhesive strip, the silicone adhesive used must be tested for compatibility with the insulating glass edge sealant, Otherwise, there may be endless trouble (some door and window installation companies buy inferior oil filled silicone glue to seal the window frame. Over time, mineral oil will migrate out and erode the entire insulating glass sealing system. Since it takes a period of time for this evil effect to show, it must be prevented in advance)

quality control approach of insulating glass

although the basic theory of insulating glass in the domestic system is not very perfect at present, in recent years, with the rapid development of insulating glass in China, various types of insulating glass production equipment are widely used in production practice. At the same time, in the development history of insulating glass in recent 20 years, we have accumulated a lot of practical experience in both positive and negative aspects. The author now summarizes the following quality control ways as follows

1。 A better process is an effective way to improve the quality of insulating glass. For the insulating glass industry, a good production process must have the following elements. A leading and continuous production line. Only a continuous production line can ensure the consistency of insulating glass products from the original glass to the qualified finished products, with qualified quality, and can maximize the production efficiency; Second, whether it is the leading sealing or the second sealing equipment, we should try to use the sealing equipment with a high degree of automation. Only in this way can we minimize the impact of human factors on quality

2。 To improve the production environment of insulating glass, insulating glass must be produced in an environment without dust, solvent pollution and suitable temperature. Dust pollution in the production workshop will have a great adverse impact on the bonding effect of various components of the insulating glass sealing system. The sealing performance and functional life of insulating glass products with poor bonding effect can be imagined. The presence of solvent will cause the butyl rubber (PIB) to lose its adhesive force, thus leading to the failure of sealing. Therefore, do not use volatile substances in the workshop, and keep the air unobstructed. The suitable temperature is the necessary condition for the formation of effective results of the second seal. The supply temperature of the second sealant should be above 10 ℃ as far as possible. Only the appropriate temperature can make the sealant achieve the use effect within the specified time, such as initial adhesion, shear strength, elastic modulus, sealing performance, etc

3。 With excellent equipment, good production environment and no good management, we can never make insulating glass with stable quality and excellent performance. The particularity of insulating glass production determines that the management of the following aspects is particularly important. ① The aluminum strip is connected by inserting corners. Check whether the four connecting corners are effectively sealed with butyl rubber (PIB); ② Whether the filling time of molecular sieve exceeds the 40 minutes specified in the procedure to seal two layers of sealant; ③ Whether the coated glass requiring edge grinding meets the edge grinding requirements; ④ Whether the width and thickness of butyl rubber (PIB) and secondary sealant meet the values specified in relevant standards; ⑤ If silicone sealant is used for secondary sealing, whether the miscibility test has been carried out (according to the insulating glass sealant industry standard jc486, if silicone sealant is used for secondary sealing, the miscibility test should be carried out)

4。 Selecting qualified supporting materials is a sufficient and necessary condition for producing qualified insulating glass. Without qualified supporting materials, it is impossible to produce high-performance insulating glass products. Therefore, material selection is a key link. According to the current domestic production status of insulating glass, double sealing is the mainstream production process, and other processes are in a complementary position. Therefore, the quality of various components constituting the double sealing process is the focus of discussion. The main components constituting the double sealing process are butyl rubber (PIB), polysulfide rubber, silicone rubber, aluminum strip, desiccant, connectors, etc, As a relatively mature and reliable two-way sealing process formed by butyl rubber + polysulfide rubber, it has been successfully applied in the energy-saving door and window industry for more than 25 years, so it has been recognized by the industry as the first choice for the production of high air tight insulating glass products. With the continuous innovation and development of modern architecture, the emergence of glass curtain wall puts forward higher requirements for the double channel sealing process of insulating glass. The insulating glass of curtain wall should not only reflect the beauty, but also achieve energy-saving effect within the functional life. At the same time, it is more important to reflect the safety performance. Due to its excellent UV resistance, shear strength and other properties, silicone adhesive has become the first choice for the secondary sealing material of insulating glass of hidden frame curtain wall. In order to ensure the functional life of its sealing, the thickness of its adhesive layer should be listed as the main consideration of designers. This is mainly because silicone adhesive has excellent aging resistance, but its air tightness is relatively insufficient, especially once water vapor enters the insulating glass, The functional life of insulating glass will end immediately. The condensed water in the insulating glass will have a fatal impact on the whole insulating glass component, which in turn will lead to the production of non safety factors again, so as to increase the social cost. Therefore, designing an appropriate adhesive layer thickness and extending the functional life of the sealant is the best choice to ensure the safety of the insulating glass of the curtain wall and prolong its functional life. It is also an effective way to control the quality of insulating glass and prolong the functional life by conducting miscibility experiments on various sealing materials, using bendable aluminum strips and molecular sieves with appropriate adsorption rate as far as possible.
